Oh so much is going on right now that we look back and are thankful for being able to relax a bit in the couple of months!!
We are starting our 2nd CSA session and have 53 shares!! We are so excited about this new venture and thank everyone for the great feedback on the winter session! Lambing is going great and are about 1/3 of way done. Here is a picture of one of my newborn set of triplets – have had 3 sets so far which is alot for my breed!! Jersey calves will be arriving this week. First batch of chicks came last week. Piglets are running around as well as the beef calves! Spring get everyone going!

Thanks for everyone for making our first 3 month CSA a huge success!! Our next one starts in April and run through June. We try to have a mix of cuts and meat for everyone to experience! More info on our CSA page. Outdoor market starts April 21st!! Til then, find us at Metcalfe’s Hilldale and West Towne, Miller & Sons, and Jenifer Street Market! And the winter market located at the Sr. Center, W. Mifflin Street every other Saturday – 8 am to noon. And new product will be showing up on the shelves as well – stay tuned!

Where can you find our products during the winter?

Our customers often ask us “where can I get your products when the outdoor market is over?” Many people still do not realize that there is a winter market (so the market goes year round). Nov-Dec it is held at the Monona Terrace, downtown Madison. Jan- April it is held at the Sr. Center where there is also a market breakfast in which all items come exclusively from the farmers themselves. We understand that some of you don’t want to go downtown, or pay for parking or don’t enjoy the environment, so don’t worry!! You can find most of our products at Metcalfe’s, both Hilldale and West Side, Hy-Vee (just soups right now), Miller & Sons (Verona – soups and pasties) and now at Jenifer Street Market (meats, soups and pasties). We have also created a meat CSA (community supported agriculture) and currently have 2 drop off sites. (See Our CSA page for more info). We are truly thankful for these grocery stores to be supporting local food and farmers and hope that these sites make it easier for you to get our products during the winter months!

New Meat Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)

Our first meat CSA is underway and we are thrilled with the excitement from everyone – we will be doing them in 3 month increments so people can be flexible in their buying habits. For more info, go to our CSA page.

We are currently doing the winter market which is located at the Sr. Center on West Mifflin every other Saturday and will be there again on the 21^st of January. The market is open from 8 to noon and offers a breakfast which is made from vendors products – it is a small price to get such a good meal. If you need anything, you can certainly pre-order and pick it up between that time – that way, you will be sure to get what you want before it sells out! Winter has been a blessing so far – a few cold days won’t hurt any of us and offers nature a bit of a rest!

Winter at Jordandal Farms

The cold weather has arrived and we have all of our fall chores complete – compost spread to needed pastures, sheep sheared, milking cows dried up, beef cows still grazing but in wooded areas for shelter, hogs secured in their hoop houses and freezers full of meats to carry us through the winter. Although, we look forward to the res pit of winter, we also will start planning for the new year and look forward to the new green grass.

This week has been spent in the kitchen coming up with new recipes for frozen entrees – we are so excited about these and will let you know when they have hit the shelves! We currently produce 4 pastys, 5 soups and 2 stocks. You can cook the pasties frozen and you can microwave the soups in their containers so perfect for taking to work!

Looking forward to seeing you all at the winter market where we will have beef, pork, chicken, lamb, soups, stocks and pasties! And as always, thanks for supporting local food!!
